English rock band formed in Liverpool in 1960. Final lineup: John Lennon (vocals/guitar), Paul McCartney (vocals/bass), George Harrison (vocals/lead guitar), and Ringo Starr (drums, joined 1962, replacing Pete Best). The most commercially successful and culturally influential band in popular music history; estimated sales exceed 600 million units worldwide.
Active 1960-1970. Released 12 studio albums on Parlophone/Apple, plus singles, EPs, and posthumous compilations. The band dissolved in April 1970 amid creative and personal tensions. Lennon was murdered in December 1980; Harrison died of cancer in November 2001. The 2023 release "Now and Then," reconstructed using Lennon vocals and AI separation technology, became the band's first new single in over 25 years.
