Canadian power trio formed in Toronto in 1968. The classic lineup of Geddy Lee (bass, vocals, keyboards), Alex Lifeson (guitar), and Neil Peart (drums, lyrics) coalesced in 1974 and remained intact until Peart's retirement in 2015. Peart died in January 2020.

The band released 19 studio albums, with peaks including 2112 (1976), A Farewell to Kings (1977), Permanent Waves (1980), Moving Pictures (1981, their best-selling), and Power Windows (1985). Their progressive-rock approach — odd time signatures, conceptual lyrics, technical proficiency — earned a deeply devoted fanbase. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.
