American hard rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1973 by guitarist Randy Rhoads (1973-1979, joined Ozzy Osbourne, died 1982) and bassist Kelly Garni. Vocalist Kevin DuBrow (died 2007) joined in 1975 and was the band's identifying voice. Frankie Banali (drums, 1980-2020) defined the classic lineup.
Thirteen studio albums between Quiet Riot (1977) and Hollywood Cowboys (2019). Commercial peak: Metal Health (1983), the first heavy metal album to reach #1 on the Billboard 200, featuring "Cum on Feel the Noize" (a Slade cover). DuBrow died of a cocaine overdose in 2007; Banali died of pancreatic cancer in 2020. The band has continued with Jizzy Pearl on vocals and various lineups.
