English heavy metal vocalist; solo career launched in 1979 after his firing from Black Sabbath. Originally backed by guitarist Randy Rhoads (1979-1982), bassist Bob Daisley, and drummer Lee Kerslake. Rhoads died in a 1982 plane crash; subsequent guitarists include Jake E. Lee, Zakk Wylde (longest tenure), and Gus G.
Thirteen studio albums between Blizzard of Ozz (1980) and Patient Number 9 (2022, Grammy-winning). Best-selling solo work includes Diary of a Madman (1981), No More Tears (1991), and Ozzmosis (1995). Founded the Ozzfest touring festival in 1996. The MTV reality show The Osbournes (2002-2005) reintroduced him to a mainstream audience. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist in 2024 (Black Sabbath was inducted in 2006). Died July 2025 at age 76.
