Black Sabbath

1 concert · 15 records

English heavy metal band formed in Birmingham in 1968 by Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass), Bill Ward (drums), and Ozzy Osbourne (vocals). Widely credited with inventing heavy metal as a distinct genre.

The original Osbourne-fronted lineup released eight studio albums between 1970 and 1978 — including Black Sabbath (1970), Paranoid (1970), and Master of Reality (1971). Osbourne was fired in 1979; Ronnie James Dio fronted the band for Heaven and Hell (1980) and Mob Rules (1981). The band cycled through several singers (Ian Gillan, Glenn Hughes, Tony Martin) through the 1980s and 1990s. The original lineup reunited for 13 (2013), the band's first US #1 album. Final tour wrapped in 2017.
