American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1971. Original lineup: Glenn Frey (vocals/guitar), Don Henley (vocals/drums), Bernie Leadon (guitar/vocals), and Randy Meisner (bass/vocals). Joe Walsh joined in 1975 replacing Leadon; Timothy B. Schmit replaced Meisner in 1977.

Seven studio albums during the original 1971-1980 run plus the long-delayed Long Road Out of Eden (2007). Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 (1976) sold over 38 million copies in the US — one of the best-selling albums of all time. Frey died in 2016. The band has continued to tour with Frey's son Deacon Frey and country singer Vince Gill. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
