Australian hard rock band formed in Sydney in 1973 by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young. After early lineup changes, the classic Bon Scott era (1974-1980) included Phil Rudd (drums) and Cliff Williams (bass). Vocalist Bon Scott died in February 1980; Brian Johnson joined within months.

The Johnson-era debut, Back in Black (1980), has sold an estimated 50 million copies worldwide and is among the best-selling albums of all time. Bon Scott-era highlights include Highway to Hell (1979), Powerage (1978), and Let There Be Rock (1977). Malcolm Young died in 2017; nephew Stevie Young replaced him. Seventeen studio albums released as of 2020's Power Up.
