Steel dive coaster at Alton Towers in Staffordshire, England, opened 1998 — the world's first vertical-drop dive coaster, built by Bolliger & Mabillard. After a brief hold-and-release over the edge, riders drop 180 feet straight down (the second half of the drop is into an underground tunnel). Top speed 68 mph.
