Yngwie J. Malmsteen

Swedish guitarist born June 30, 1963, in Stockholm. Foundational figure in neoclassical metal — a subgenre that fuses heavy metal with the harmonic and melodic language of European classical music, particularly Bach, Vivaldi, and Paganini. Frequently cited as one of the most technically influential guitarists of the 1980s.

Released over 20 studio albums, primarily under the band name Rising Force, starting with Rising Force (1984). Commercial peak: Marching Out (1985), Trilogy (1986), and Odyssey (1988, his most commercial album, featuring vocalist Joe Lynn Turner). Continues to record and tour as a solo guitarist with revolving rhythm sections.
