English rock band formed in Wolverhampton in 1969. Long-running lineup historically featured Glenn Hughes (bass/vocals, b. 1951, who left in 1973 to join Deep Purple), Mel Galley (guitar/vocals, 1948-2008), and Dave Holland (drums, 1948-2018). Distinguished by their fusion of hard rock with funk and soul influences.

Released five studio albums between Trapeze (1970) and Hot Wire (1974). Critical peak: Medusa (1970) and You Are the Music... We're Just the Band (1972). Mel Galley subsequently joined Whitesnake; Dave Holland joined Judas Priest.
