American rock band formed in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1967. Long-running classic lineup: Iggy Pop (vocals, b. April 21, 1947), Ron Asheton (guitar, 1948-2009), Scott Asheton (drums, 1949-2014, Ron's brother), and Dave Alexander (bass, 1947-1975). James Williamson replaced Ron Asheton on guitar for the third album. Foundational influence on punk rock.
Released three studio albums during their original run: The Stooges (1969), Fun House (1970), and Raw Power (1973). Reformed in 2003 with Iggy Pop, Ron and Scott Asheton, and Mike Watt on bass. Released The Weirdness (2007) and Ready to Die (2013, with Williamson returning to guitar after Ron Asheton's 2009 death). Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.
