American singer-songwriter and actor (born James Newell Osterberg Jr., 1947). First gained prominence as vocalist of the Stooges (1967-1974, 2003-2016); his solo career has spanned six decades. Often called "the Godfather of Punk" for his foundational influence on the genre.
Nineteen solo studio albums between The Idiot (1977, co-written with David Bowie) and Every Loser (2023). Commercial peak: Lust for Life (1977), New Values (1979), and Blah-Blah-Blah (1986). The Stooges were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.
