American punk rock band formed in Garden Grove, California in 1984. Lineup: Dexter Holland (vocals/guitar), Noodles (Kevin Wasserman, guitar), Greg K. (Greg Kriesel, bass, 1984-2018), and Ron Welty (drums, 1987-2003, replaced by various since). Pete Parada played drums from 2007 to 2021.
Ten studio albums starting with the self-titled debut (1989). Commercial breakthrough: Smash (1994), which remains the best-selling album ever on an independent label (Epitaph) at over 11 million copies. Subsequent peaks: Ixnay on the Hombre (1997), Americana (1998), and Conspiracy of One (2000). Holland completed a PhD in molecular biology in 2017 while touring.
