British progressive rock band formed in London in 1975. Duo of producer/engineer Alan Parsons (b. December 20, 1948; engineered Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon) and songwriter/keyboardist Eric Woolfson (1945-2009). Distinguished by their conceptual albums and use of rotating session vocalists rather than a fixed frontman.
Released 11 studio albums between Tales of Mystery and Imagination (1976, based on Edgar Allan Poe) and Gaudi (1987). Commercial peak: I Robot (1977, based on Isaac Asimov's stories), The Turn of a Friendly Card (1980), and Eye in the Sky (1982, featuring the title-track hit). The Parsons-led project officially ended in 1990; Parsons continues to tour as "The Alan Parsons Live Project."
