English anarcho-punk band formed in Trowbridge, Wiltshire in 1980. Lineup: Dick Lucas (vocals), Bruce Treasure (guitar), Phil Bryant (bass), and Trotsky (drums). Distinguished by political lyrics and a more melodic approach than the contemporary UK82 hardcore scene.
Six studio albums starting with The Day the Country Died (1983). Other key releases include From the Cradle to the Grave (1984) and Worlds Apart (1985). Lucas also fronts Citizen Fish, a related anarcho-ska-punk band. After a 1985 breakup, the Subhumans reunited in 1991 and have remained active.
