American rockabilly revival trio formed in Massapequa, New York in 1979 by Brian Setzer (vocals/guitar), Lee Rocker (Leon Drucker, bass), and Slim Jim Phantom (Jim McDonnell, drums). After early rejection in the US, the band relocated to London in 1980 and broke through on the UK rockabilly revival scene.
Their first two UK albums were repackaged for the US as Built for Speed (1982), which produced "Rock This Town" and "Stray Cat Strut." The band split in 1984 after Rant n' Rave with the Stray Cats (1983). They have reunited multiple times since; Setzer has continued in his Brian Setzer Orchestra and as a solo artist.
