American rock band formed in San Francisco in 1966. Guitarist Carlos Santana is the band's only continuous member. Pioneers of the fusion of rock with Latin and African rhythms. The band's 1969 Woodstock performance was a breakthrough moment.
Released 26 studio albums between Santana (1969) and Sentient (2023). Early peak: Abraxas (1970), Santana III (1971), and Caravanserai (1972). The 1999 comeback album Supernatural sold over 30 million copies worldwide and produced "Smooth" (a #1 single featuring Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty). Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
