English singer-songwriter born August 20, 1948, in West Bromwich, Staffordshire. Lead vocalist of Led Zeppelin (1968-1980). Distinguished by his banshee-wail vocals on the Zeppelin catalog and his subsequent stylistic restlessness across folk, blues, world music, and electronica in his solo work.

Released 11 solo studio albums starting with Pictures at Eleven (1982). Subsequent peaks: Now and Zen (1988), Mighty ReArranger (2005), and the collaborations Raising Sand (2007, with Alison Krauss; six Grammy Awards including Album of the Year) and Raise the Roof (2021, with Krauss). Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Led Zeppelin in 1995.
