American singer (1947-2022) associated with the late-1970s rockabilly revival. After fronting NYC punk band Tuff Darts, he launched a solo career in 1977 with a self-titled album backed by guitar legend Link Wray.
His RCA Records run (1977-1981) produced five solo albums, including Fresh Fish Special (1978), Rock Billy Boogie (1979), and Are You Gonna Be the One (1981). Guitarist Chris Spedding replaced Wray for the later albums. Gordon's revivalist approach was an influence on the early-'80s rockabilly scene (Stray Cats, the Blasters).
