American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer (born Richard Theodore Otcasek, 1944-2019). Best known as the lead vocalist of The Cars (1976-1988, 2010-2019). Pursued a parallel solo recording and music production career.
Released seven solo studio albums starting with Beatitude (1982). As a producer, worked with Weezer (Blue Album, 1994; Green Album, 2001; Everything Will Be Alright in the End, 2014), Bad Brains, Bad Religion, Hole, No Doubt, and Guided by Voices, among others. Ocasek died of cardiovascular disease in September 2019. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the Cars in 2018.
