American singer-songwriter born October 13, 1941, in Newark, New Jersey. First gained prominence in the folk-rock duo Simon & Garfunkel (1956-1970) before launching a successful solo career.

Released 14 solo studio albums between The Paul Simon Songbook (1965) and Seven Psalms (2023). Commercial peak: There Goes Rhymin' Simon (1973), Still Crazy After All These Years (1975), and the Grammy-winning Graceland (1986) — the latter notably bringing South African musicians to international prominence during the apartheid-era cultural boycott. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice (1990 with Simon & Garfunkel, 2001 as a solo artist).
