American hardcore punk band formed in Detroit in 1981. Long-running lineup centered on vocalist John Brannon. Among the foundational acts of the early-1980s Midwestern hardcore scene; toured extensively with Black Flag and Minor Threat.
Released the Negative Approach EP (1982, Touch and Go) and the full-length Tied Down (1983). Brannon dissolved the band in 1984; he subsequently led Laughing Hyenas and Easy Action. Negative Approach reformed in 2006 and continues to perform.
