American singer and actor born Morris Day on December 13, 1956, in Springfield, Illinois; raised in Minneapolis. Lead vocalist for the Time (also styled Morris Day and the Time), the Prince-affiliated funk band formed in 1981. Distinguished by his comic stage persona, choreographed routines with valet/sidekick Jerome Benton, and slick frontman style.
Released three solo studio albums between The Color of Success (1985) and Guaranteed (1992). Co-starred with Prince in Purple Rain (1984) and Graffiti Bridge (1990). Continues to tour with the Time.
