American Latin pop band formed in Miami in 1975 (originally as the Miami Latin Boys). Renamed Miami Sound Machine after Gloria Estefan (then Gloria Fajardo) joined as vocalist. Long-running core: Gloria Estefan (vocals), Emilio Estefan (percussion/producer), and Kiki Garcia (drums). Foundational to the international crossover success of Latin pop in the 1980s.
Released 12 studio albums between Renacer (1977) and Cuts Both Ways (1989), the latter increasingly credited as Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine. Commercial peak: Primitive Love (1985, featuring "Conga," "Bad Boy," and "Words Get in the Way"). The group was renamed Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine starting with Let It Loose (1987), then simply Gloria Estefan from Cuts Both Ways onward.
