American guitarist, keyboardist, and songwriter born September 18, 1949, in Topeka, Kansas. Founding member and primary songwriter for Kansas (1973-1983, 1990-1991), responsible for the band's progressive-rock-meets-heartland-rock signature material including "Carry On Wayward Son" and "Dust in the Wind."
Released solo albums starting with Seeds of Change (1980, featuring Ronnie James Dio on vocals). Converted to Christianity in 1979 and his subsequent solo work increasingly explored Christian themes. Suffered a stroke in 2009 that limited his playing; continues to write and produce.
