American blues vocalist and harmonica player born Amos Wells Blakemore Jr. on December 9, 1934, in Memphis, Tennessee; died January 15, 1998. Long associated with guitarist Buddy Guy. Apprenticed in Chicago with Muddy Waters and Tampa Red.

Released the influential Hoodoo Man Blues (1965, the first Chicago blues album recorded specifically for the LP format) with Buddy Guy on guitar. Subsequent classics include It's My Life, Baby! (1966) and Coming at You (1968). Toured extensively with the Rolling Stones in 1970 and continued performing until shortly before his death from lymphoma.
