English rock band fronted by Elvis Costello (born Declan MacManus, 1954). The Attractions — Steve Nieve (keyboards), Bruce Thomas (bass), and Pete Thomas (drums) — backed Costello from 1977 to 1986, returning intermittently for later projects.
Costello's first three albums with the Attractions — This Year's Model (1978), Armed Forces (1979), and Get Happy!! (1980) — are widely considered foundational to British new wave songwriting. The partnership produced 11 studio albums; the relationship between Costello and bassist Bruce Thomas eventually became too strained to continue. Costello has since released over 30 solo and collaborative albums in styles ranging from country to chamber pop to opera.
