American singer and entertainer born October 10, 1954, in Bloomington, Indiana. First gained prominence as the original vocalist for Van Halen (1974-1985, 2007-2020) before launching a solo career during his first departure from the band.
Released five solo studio albums between 1986 and 2003. Commercial peak: Eat 'Em and Smile (1986), which featured guitarist Steve Vai. Subsequent solo work — Skyscraper (1988), A Little Ain't Enough (1991), Your Filthy Little Mouth (1994) — did not match the early peak. After his second Van Halen tenure ended in 2020, Roth has pursued various solo touring and visual-art projects.
