American supergroup formed in Los Angeles in 1969. Lineup: David Crosby (vocals/guitar, formerly of the Byrds; died 2023), Stephen Stills (vocals/guitar, formerly of Buffalo Springfield), Graham Nash (vocals/guitar, formerly of the Hollies), and Neil Young (vocals/guitar, also formerly of Buffalo Springfield). The full four-member lineup performed intermittently; Young's participation has been particularly sporadic.

Two full-quartet studio albums in the early era: Déjà Vu (1970) and Looking Forward (1999). The trio CSN released several additional albums. Their second public performance (after a single 1969 LA Forum show) was at Woodstock in August 1969. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
