American-Canadian rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1966 by Stephen Stills, Neil Young, Richie Furay (vocals/guitar), Bruce Palmer (bass), and Dewey Martin (drums). Active just two years (1966-1968), but a defining act of the late-1960s folk-rock scene and the starting point for multiple subsequent supergroups.
Three studio albums: Buffalo Springfield (1966), Buffalo Springfield Again (1967), and Last Time Around (1968). Best-known single: "For What It's Worth" (1967), written by Stills. Members went on to Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (Stills, Young); Poco (Furay); the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band; and other projects. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.
