American singer-songwriter and guitarist born June 8, 1944, in Canton, Ohio. First gained attention as a member of the Steve Miller Band (1967-1969) before launching a successful solo career.
Released over 20 solo studio albums starting with Boz Scaggs (1969). Commercial peak: Silk Degrees (1976), which sold over 5 million copies on the strength of "Lowdown," "Lido Shuffle," and "It's Over." Subsequent work has shifted toward jazz, blues, and standards interpretation, particularly on the But Beautiful (2003) and Speak Low (2008) standards albums.
