American rock band formed in New York City in 1974. Long-running lineup centered on Debbie Harry (vocals), Chris Stein (guitar), and Clem Burke (drums, 1975-2025, died 2025). Pioneers of new wave; key in popularizing punk-rock-influenced aesthetics for mainstream pop audiences.
Eleven studio albums starting with the 1976 self-titled debut. Commercial peak: Parallel Lines (1978, featuring "Heart of Glass" and "One Way or Another"), Eat to the Beat (1979), and Autoamerican (1980, featuring the band's pioneering hip-hop crossover "Rapture"). The band broke up in 1982 and reunited in 1997. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.
