English bassist born William George Perks on October 24, 1936, in Lewisham, London. The original bassist for the Rolling Stones (1962-1993). Left the band to pursue solo and side projects, becoming one of the few high-profile rock musicians to retire from a successful band by choice.
Released multiple solo studio albums starting with Monkey Grip (1974). Formed Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings (1997-present), a revolving-membership blues and R&B revue. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the Rolling Stones in 1989.
