English progressive rock supergroup formed in London in 1981. Original lineup: John Wetton (vocals/bass, formerly of King Crimson), Steve Howe (guitar, formerly of Yes), Geoff Downes (keyboards, formerly of Yes and the Buggles), and Carl Palmer (drums, formerly of Emerson, Lake & Palmer).
Fifteen studio albums starting with the self-titled debut (1982), which sold over 10 million copies and produced the top-10 hit "Heat of the Moment." Subsequent releases — Alpha (1983), Astra (1985) — did not match the debut's commercial impact. Wetton died in 2017; Howe departed in 2013. The band has continued with various lineups.
