American hip-hop group formed in Queens, New York in 1985. Lineup: Q-Tip (Kamaal Ibn John Fareed), Phife Dawg (Malik Taylor, 1985-2016), Ali Shaheed Muhammad (DJ), and Jarobi White (1985-1991, 2006-2016). Among the foundational acts of the Native Tongues collective alongside De La Soul.
Five studio albums between 1990 and 1998: People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm (1990), The Low End Theory (1991), Midnight Marauders (1993), Beats, Rhymes and Life (1996), and The Love Movement (1998). Phife Dawg died in 2016 from complications of diabetes. The posthumous We Got It from Here... Thank You 4 Your Service (2016) was the band's final release.
