Cornerstone Festival 1996
Bushnell, IL, United States
Back in 1996, I made the trip out to the Cornerstone Festival in Bushnell, Illinois. I drove out with Jaime Arthurs and his girlfriend, making the long haul to the sprawling festival grounds set among the Illinois farmland. Cornerstone was one of those events that had a spirit all its own, drawing people together from all over for days of music and community.
We camped at the festival, the full primitive experience: fire pits, shower trailers, and all the fun (and grit) that comes with roughing it in a field for a few days. While we were there, we ran into some other Weirton folks, Matt and Carrie Bennett, and ended up riding home with them. Of course, no road trip is complete without a little drama, and we blew a tire on the way back, which meant a stop at Western Auto to get a replacement before we could finish the trip home.
