Greek-American keyboardist and composer born Yiannis Hryssomallis on November 14, 1954, in Kalamata, Greece. Distinguished by his lush, large-ensemble new-age compositions and his elaborate live productions, frequently filmed at historic sites for PBS broadcasts.
Released over 20 studio albums between Optimystique (1980) and The Dream Concert: Live from the Great Pyramids of Egypt (2017). Commercial peak: Live at the Acropolis (1994, eventually 7x platinum, recorded at the Herodes Atticus Theater in Athens). Two Grammy nominations.
