American hard rock band formed in Oakland, California in 1974 (originally as Yesterday & Today, shortened to Y&T in 1981 due to the Beatles album of the same name). Long-running lineup centered on Dave Meniketti (vocals/guitar). Distinguished by their bluesy hard-rock sound and modest commercial peak during the early-1980s metal explosion.
Released 14 studio albums between Yesterday & Today (1976) and Facemelter (2010). Commercial peak: Earthshaker (1981), Black Tiger (1982), and Mean Streak (1983). Tragically lost guitarist Joey Alves (1953-2017), drummer Leonard Haze (1955-2016), and bassist Phil Kennemore (1953-2011) within a few-year span.
