American heavy metal band formed in New York City in 1985 by Rob Zombie (vocals, born Robert Cummings) and Sean Yseult (bass). Long-running classic lineup later added Jay Yuenger (guitar, joined 1989) and John Tempesta (drums, joined 1992). Distinguished by their fusion of groove metal with B-movie horror aesthetics and industrial-sample textures.
Released four studio albums between Soul-Crusher (1987) and Astro-Creep: 2000 (1995, multi-platinum, featuring "More Human Than Human" and "Super-Charger Heaven"). Commercial peak: La Sexorcisto: Devil Music Vol. 1 (1992, eventually double-platinum) and Astro-Creep: 2000. The band dissolved in 1998; Rob Zombie has continued the aesthetic in his solo career.
