American alt-country band formed in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1994. Long-running lineup historically centered on Ryan Adams (vocals/guitar) and Caitlin Cary (violin/vocals). Distinguished by their fusion of country, folk, and rock and as one of the foundational bands of the alt-country movement.
Released three studio albums during their original run: Faithless Street (1995), Strangers Almanac (1997), and Pneumonia (2001, recorded 1999 but delayed by label issues). The band dissolved in 2001; Adams pursued a prolific solo career.
