American alternative rock band formed in Chicago in 1992. Long-running classic lineup: Louise Post (vocals/guitar), Nina Gordon (vocals/guitar), Steve Lack (bass), and Jim Shapiro (drums, Gordon's brother). Distinguished by Post and Gordon's male-female harmony vocals and their fuzz-rock songwriting.
Released five studio albums between American Thighs (1994) and Ghost Notes (2015). Commercial peak: American Thighs (featuring the breakthrough "Seether") and Eight Arms to Hold You (1997, featuring "Volcano Girls"). Gordon left in 1998 amid acrimony with Post; the classic lineup reunited in 2013 for Ghost Notes.
