American gothic metal band formed in Brooklyn, New York in 1989. Lineup: Peter Steele (vocals/bass, died 2010), Kenny Hickey (guitar), Josh Silver (keyboards), and Sal Abruscato (drums, 1989-1992, 1999-2003) / Johnny Kelly (drums, 1992-1999, 2003-2010).
Seven studio albums between Slow, Deep and Hard (1991) and Dead Again (2007). Commercial peak: Bloody Kisses (1993, featuring "Black No. 1") and October Rust (1996). Peter Steele died of heart failure in April 2010 at age 48, ending the band.
