American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer born June 22, 1948, in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. First gained prominence as a member of Nazz (1967-1970), then launched a long-running solo career. Also led the band Utopia (1973-1986, 2018-present).
Released over 25 solo studio albums between Runt (1970) and Space Force (2022). Commercial peak: Something/Anything? (1972) and A Wizard, a True Star (1973). As a producer, worked with Meat Loaf (Bat Out of Hell, 1977), the New York Dolls, Patti Smith, Hall & Oates, XTC, Cheap Trick, and Grand Funk Railroad. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.
