British synth-pop band formed in Sheffield in 1977. After a 1982 lineup reduction, the long-running trio was Tom Bailey (vocals/keyboards), Alannah Currie (percussion/vocals), and Joe Leeway (vocals/percussion, until 1986). The band's name references the Thomson Twins (with no "p") from the Tintin comics.
Released eight studio albums between A Product Of... (1981) and Queer (1991). Commercial peak: Quick Step & Side Kick (1983, featuring "Love on Your Side") and Into the Gap (1984, featuring "Hold Me Now" and "Doctor! Doctor!"). Bailey continues to tour as Thompson Twins' Tom Bailey.
