The house band of NBC's The Tonight Show, which has gone through multiple incarnations matched to different Tonight Show hosts and bandleaders. The most famous configuration is the Doc Severinsen-led band (1967-1992) during Johnny Carson's Tonight Show tenure, featuring trumpet bandleader Severinsen and drummer Ed Shaughnessy.
Released numerous albums during the Severinsen era. The Severinsen-led band was a big-band-jazz ensemble; later iterations under Jay Leno (Branford Marsalis, then Kevin Eubanks) and Jimmy Fallon (The Roots, since 2014) have taken different musical directions.
