British symphony orchestra founded in London in 1946 by conductor Sir Thomas Beecham (1879-1961). One of the world's leading symphony orchestras, with a particular reputation for recording the standard classical repertoire as well as crossover and film-score work.
The orchestra has recorded extensively for major classical and crossover-pop labels. "The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra" appears on countless symphonic-rock crossover recordings, soundtracks, and Christmas albums, as well as their core classical catalog.
