American smooth jazz / contemporary jazz band formed in Los Angeles in 1985 by guitarist Russ Freeman (b. 1960). Distinguished by their hybrid of fusion-era guitar instrumentals with bright, contemporary-jazz production and the band's signature Russ Freeman jazz-cat mascot on every album cover.
