American horror-punk band formed in Lodi, New Jersey in 1977. Long-running classic lineup: Glenn Danzig (vocals, 1955), Jerry Only (bass, b. Gerald Caiafa, 1959), and various guitarists and drummers including Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein (Jerry's brother) and Bobby Steele. Distinguished by their hooky punk-rock songwriting paired with horror-movie iconography, including the band's distinctive "Crimson Ghost" mascot.
Released three studio albums during Danzig's original tenure: Static Age (recorded 1978, released 1996), Walk Among Us (1982), and Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood (1983). Danzig left in 1983; the band reformed in 1995 under Jerry Only with various replacement vocalists. The classic Danzig/Only/Doyle lineup has reunited for occasional tours since 2016.
