Scottish rock band formed in East Kilbride in 1983. Long-running lineup historically centered on brothers Jim Reid (vocals) and William Reid (guitar). Distinguished by their fusion of melodic pop songwriting with extreme feedback and noise (early albums) and pioneering influence on shoegaze, dream-pop, and noise pop.
Released seven studio albums between Psychocandy (1985) and Glasgow Eyes (2024). Critical peak: Psychocandy, Darklands (1987), and Automatic (1989). Their early shows became famous for the brothers' on-stage hostility and short, feedback-soaked sets. Bobby Gillespie (later of Primal Scream) was an early member.
