American rock band formed in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1967. Long-running lineup: Peter Wolf (vocals, until 1983), J. Geils (guitar, 1946-2017), Magic Dick (harmonica), Seth Justman (keyboards), Danny Klein (bass), and Stephen Jo Bladd (drums). Distinguished by their fusion of blues, R&B, and rock with Wolf's high-energy live performances.
Released 11 studio albums between The J. Geils Band (1970) and You're Gettin' Even While I'm Gettin' Odd (1984). Commercial peak: Freeze Frame (1981, featuring the #1 "Centerfold"). J. Geils died in 2017 of natural causes.
